Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long are sessions?

A. Individual sessions are typically 60 minutes, weekly.
Q. How often do we need to meet?

A. I generally suggest weekly meetings because they allow us the time needed for us to connect, and the opportunity for meaningful change. We can discuss if it would be helpful to increase the length of the session or the frequency of meetings.

Q. I have a lot going on. I don’t know where to start or what to say with a therapist.

A. What you want to share is up to you.  When you want to share is up to you. Therapy is YOUR time. You can discuss anything you want to at any time.  I will use my clinical expertise to guide the process, but where we go is ultimately up to you.

Q. What’s the first meeting like?

A. Our first meeting will include me asking you questions to get a sense of your background, the issues you are dealing with, and any goals you have. We will go at a pace that makes sense for you and your situation.

Q. How long will I go for?

A. The number of sessions varies, depends on several factors, and ultimately it’s your decision.   If clients are seeking brief treatment, when appropriate we can explore techniques grounded in brief therapy approaches like “solutions focused therapy.”  For others, therapy takes more time.  It really depends on the nature of the challenges you’re working with and what you want out of the process.   I am happy to discuss your expectations or questions at any time.
